The Weymouth and Portland Kitesurf Club or ´Vulture bank´ was formed by an entusiastic band of kitesurfers captained by Andy Johnson to protect the beaches of Weymouth bay and Portland Harbour.
The area it covers presently include Portland Harbour and all beaches in the Weymouth Bay area , Town Beach/Old Pier bandstand , Skatepark , Overcombe and Ringstead
Its main aim is to keep access open for all kitesurfers to these beaches and talk with the local authority, harbour master , beach officers and port authorities
Please ask local kitesurfers or where to go and what to look out for .
Be particularly carefull in onshore winds at Overcombe - due to narrow launch - expereinced kiters only
In the Harbour no riding at high tide in 20 knots or more with winds from the East - bang onshore
Learners - Harbour is best - at lowish water - where you can stand - prevailing wind is dead offshore!
You can get a days/ weeks ticket/permit for the harbour if you are not a regular - you do need 3rd party liability insurance!
Interested folk that haven´t been trained by the local school have to come in person to Paracademy to get assessed, (can you ride safely and can you do a packdown) have their insurance checked and get issued with a permit - this is free unless trainning is required.
Membership includes
A permit to kite in the Harbour
Invitations to all of the best parties, BBQ´s on the south coast
Other benefits to be added soon
The cost to join the club is £25.00 per year
See you on the beach!
Andy and the crew!
