Paracademy Kite surfing full 3 day course This is a three day course which will give you the skills to start kite surfing. The course covers the background to the sport, the theory, its equipment, safety, places to surf, with the overall aim being to help you achieve self sufficiency to carry on and learn the sport. Paracademy initially teaches you on two line water re-launchable kites (LEI´ s), to ensure you get a solid grounding in the basics of power kite flying, using the kites for traction and the all important safety and self rescue training. Then you just add a kiteboard, learn to water start, plane, edge and you´re away. The course finishes with plenty of practice via Paracademys ´Station to Station´ surf runs and a full introduction to four line LEI´s, the set-up, power and de-power systems. The three day course leads to IKO level 1 or 2 Kiteboarder card, which is recognised around the world. Kite surfing taster day This gives you an introduction to the sport; a short background to the equipment, boards, kites and safety kit etc. Then it´s ´hands on´ in the water all the way! The instructors will teach you to set-up and fly with one of the new generation of water re-launchable power kites. You will learn how to water launch the kite, then go on to ´body surfing´ behind the kite. Finally the flying skills are put together with your kite board, for your first surfing sensation.
This course has a no wind, no worries guarantee Paracademy operates its courses from both Portland Harbour and Weymouth Bay. Great flat water areas to learn in with shallow water. Experienced instructors will teach you, with our rescue craft always at hand. The course fee will cover your instruction, hire of equipment and insurance. You just need to bring a towel. Paracademy can also help with accommodation in the area if required. Taster day price £95 all kit provided. Course dates: Sats. and Suns. Permit requirements for Kite surfing in Portland Harbour Anyone wishing to Kitesurf in Portland Harbour must be aware that there is a permit system in place to ensure that the risk of accidents arising from pilot error, or lack of knowledge about the area are minimised. Please check the following points, and ensure you fulfil the criteria before reporting to Paracademy to be assessed and issued with a permit. The permit does not cost anything in itself unless an instructor considers that extra training is needed to bring a pilot up to the required standard. The directive has been issued by Portland Port Ltd. and can be enforced. We at Paracademy are the regulators, and are simply hoping to ensure a safe and enjoyable environment for pilots and the public alike. For a permit to kitesurf in Portland Harbour: B.K.S.A. Insurance must be produced and be valid. IKO cards, if held, must be shown. If no IKO card is presented, pilots must be able to demonstrate a minimum standard of at least IKO Level 1. Pilots must demonstrate the ability to perform a self-rescue/packdown. Please study the information boards at the at Paracademy for local beach rules Please study the following map outlining the zones used for different levels and conditions. All launching must be done in the water, or at the waters edge. In the event of strong onshore winds and low water, the pilot must launch at least three kite-line lengths out from the water´s edge. No kites to be flown over the beach at any time.
