Background

At the end of 2007 I became qualified with the BKSA as one of the few coaches in the UK and in 2009 set up a business called Jo Wilson Coaching.  My goal is to group people of similar levels together so not only I can help with the learning process but you will also be able of bounce of each others vibes to.

I have always had an interest in coaching. The lack of it is noticeable and the need for it is critical.  No longer competing full time I have the opportunity to create a small number of courses for people who want to develop and improve
their kiting.  These courses are designed to progressively build up moves allowing you to learn in a fun and safe manner eliminating the fear factor as much as possible. My motto is to keep things fun, energetic but effective because you ride the best when you are enjoying yourself.

I have 10 trips around the UK coaching where you can take on courses that are 3 hours long or I have a number of more intensive coaching holidays planned which are not only to warm windy climates, but also in the UK to.  There is something for everyone just as long as you can already ride.  You can find out more on

I started kitesurfing as an alternative sport to trampolining in 2002.  It was a long process for me as I had no previous experience with other wind or water sports.  I can easily relate to others in the same position as I was back then.  When I finally grasped riding upwind I began to learn tricks fairly rapidly.  Many of them are based on somersaults I had already learned in trampolining.  I decided that I wanted to compete in order to keep pushing my level, to see what other riders could do and to gain inspiration from them.  That set the basis of my last 3 years and after winning the UK championships I decided to follow the world tour.

I have met many kitesurfers on my travels and often find myself coaching them to learn their first tricks.  Its natural for people to want to progress and it is massively rewarding for me to watch their enjoyment as they land or even start to learn a new move.  I knew that coaching would be a route for me to follow when competitions dominated less of my time.  I will be running weekend courses around the UK and also a small number of clinics abroad, some will be for women only and others will be mixed.
