The San Agostino Kitesurfing Centre in Greece
The Centre:
The San Agostino centre is based along a stunning shoreline in the San Agostino Beach Resort in Greece. It opens daily between 9 and 5.30 and the season runs from 1st May to 31st October. With light winds and lots of space, this resort in an unspoilt part of Greece is the perfect place for a taster course or to get your BKSA level 1, while enjoying a relaxing and active holiday at the same time. San Agostino is a haven for water sports lovers, with sailing, windsurfing, waterskiing, wakeboarding and beach kayaking also on offer. Kite surfing is kept well away from the windsurfing for maximum safety, with a boat taking you upwind to a separate zone and a rescue boat on hand.
The centre is perfect for families and offers many childcare and babysitting options apart from water sports, many other activities are available such as tennis, beach volleyball, water polo and more. After a session you can relax in the sun-loungers that fringe the beach, take a refreshing dip in one of the swimming pools or just soak up the atmosphere at one of the many bars and restaurants available.
The comfortable accommodation ranges from garden bungalows with terraces to hotel rooms with balconies. If you are staying at the resort, you can use all the facilities and pay extra for kite surfing tuition, but sailing tuition, windsurfing tuition and children’s clubs are included.
The Wind:
During the May-October season the wind blows onshore here, but don’t let that put you off! This BKSA approved centre has experienced instructors who will take you out to sea to learn your first moves, at a safe distance from the beach. The wind usually picks up around 11am and starts to blow a nice consistent force 4 in the afternoon, dying down again at 5.30pm. Early mornings are windless and perfect for water skiing or wakeboarding sessions!
The Sea:
Choppy with the occasional wave.
Water/Air temp:
The Med takes a while to heat up during the early part of the season so a wetsuit is recommended, especially as most of the kite flying is done in deep water. By June the temperature greatly improves, but beginners are still recommended to take a shorty wetsuit. July and August are the hottest months with temperatures hitting the mid 30’s (Celsius) and from September onwards the wind and the air temperature remain up into the late 20’s (Celsius) right up until the end of October. See more information on average temperatures in Greece.
Water Depth:
Due to the onshore wind, all water-based kite surfing tuition is carried out further out to sea, where the depth across the bay averages out at around 6 – 8 m.
Suitability for different levels:
San Agostino is a fairly low wind resort, making it ideal for beginners to gain their BKSA Level 1 in the huge space of the kiting area. Intermediate kite surfers can practice skills and perfect early board riding under the supervision of the instructors and safety craft. NB: The wind direction prevents the centre from hiring out equipment and thus all kite surfing is with instruction, unless you have your own equipment.
Kite Equipment:
San Agostino is equipped for the beginner and intermediate rider alike, with an average of 20 Best bow-kites ranging from 7m to 17m and boards to suit all levels and sizes. For more information on our current equipment, please email

Landing and Launching:
The beach is wide and spacious with plenty of room to land and launch. Kite surfers are brought well upwind from the windsurfing zone by boat, so everyone has their own blasting space.
Storage and Safety cover:
Free storage is available for guests of the resort and rescue cover is included in the lessons. Visitors can pay for lessons, which include the use of equipment and rescue cover. Alternatively, kit storage is £40 a week. The rescue boat is only available when lessons are taking place. The wind direction prevents the centre from hiring out equipment and thus all kite surfing is with instruction.
Courses:
Taster Course 3 hour course £60
BKSA Level 1 6 hours over 2 days £120
Private instruction 1 hour lesson £30
When to visit:
The centre is open from 1st May to 31st October, during which time the above courses are available.
